Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) has become a newer method for the treatment of various types of alopecia (hair loss).
Hair loss is a very common problem found with both males and females. PRP has attracted attention in several medical fields because of its ability to promote wound healing and collagen stimulation.
PRP has already attracted attention in plastic surgery, because of its potential use in skin rejuvenating effects, and rejuvenation of hair loss. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is an autologous preparation of platelets in concentrated plasma (rich in growth factors,) which can help stimulate the activity of the hair follicles and develop new growth. PRP has shown to increase hair count, and hair thickness, during the hair growth phase.
At Rockland Med Spa, we incorporate PRP with Microneedling, as opposed to injections alone, to provide more enhanced hair growth. This combined therapy involves withdrawing of patient’s own blood, processing it so that only the enriched cells (platelet-rich plasma) remain. The plasma, rich in platelets, are microneedled directly into the scalp at the level of the hair follicles, followed by injections deeper into the scalp. Typically, the entire procedure is 4 sessions, 6 weeks apart; 1 hr./session.
Who is PRP for: Anyone experiencing hair loss is essentially a good candidate for PRP treatments, but those with early hair loss tend to respond best.
PRP with Microneedling is a simple, cost effective and feasible treatment option for androgenic alopecia, with proven results and high overall patient satisfaction.
